- Nottingham Historic Residence – Grade II listed redesign
Nottingham Historic Residence
Location: Nottingham, London
Type: Residential — Historic Property Redesign
Area: 3,500 sq ft
Scope of Work: Interior design services including design concept, layout and spatial planning, detailed floor and furniture plans, lighting plans, presentation boards, FF&E selection, and a comprehensive client specification list.
A celebration of heritage and restraint, this project reimagines a Grade II listed Georgian residence into a serene, minimalistic sanctuary that bridges history and modern living. Designed for retired engineer Mike Turner and his son Lewis, a modern art enthusiast, the interior balances their contrasting tastes—honoring the home’s heritage while introducing a contemporary sensibility defined by light, texture, and proportion.
The design direction, “Georgian Minimalism,” harmonizes classical architectural features with modern functionality. Original elements such as sash windows, judges’ paneling, and symmetrical layouts are preserved and refined through a palette of soft whites, limestone, and natural marble. Contemporary touches—like curved organic furniture, sculptural lighting, and smart-home technologies—create a calm, livable environment that feels timeless yet forward-thinking.
The open-plan layout divides the home into distinct personal and social zones. The family living room, study, and master suite form the private core, while the bar, dining, and games area flow seamlessly for entertaining. Each space was designed to enhance comfort and efficiency—bathrooms and laundry zones are grouped for sustainability and energy optimization.
A highlight of the project is the bespoke study, conceptually inspired by the property’s judicial history. Designed with the ambience of a courtroom, the space features custom-made furniture, deep natural finishes, and soft lighting—embodying dignity and modern simplicity. Colored-glass pendants and a bespoke chandelier bring a poetic contrast, echoing the stained-glass artistry of Georgian tradition.
Through minimal detailing and refined materiality, the residence achieves a quiet elegance where craftsmanship and narrative coexist. The result is a home that respects its past while embracing the present—a timeless interpretation of modern British sophistication.
